History Department Hosts Lively Open House and Trivia Night

The History Department recently welcomed students to its annual Open House and Trivia Night, offering students a chance to engage with history in a dynamic and informal setting. The event was designed to showcase upcoming course offerings and foster connections between faculty and undergraduates and reinforced the department’s commitment to building community and inspiring intellectual curiosity among its students. The relaxed and casual evening drew approximately 35 students who mingled with professors, explored new Spring semester courses, and enjoyed some friendly competition.
Faculty members in attendance highlighted their own upcoming Spring courses and encouraged students to enroll. Students had the opportunity to interact with professors and browse course flyers for more details. The highlight of the evening was the trivia contest, skillfully organized by Professor Derek Chang. The game featured questions inspired by the department’s Spring offerings. Questions ranged from identifying the site that served as London’s primary place of execution in the 16th century to modern-day pop culture references like K-Pop Demon Hunters. When an answer was incorrect, Professor Chang playfully encouraged the students to “take the class to learn more!” Prizes were awarded for correct answers, adding a fun and competitive edge to the night. Faculty joined in the spirited atmosphere, vying for students’ interest in their courses and sharing laughs along the way.
