Anna Zulueta

Overview

As a multidisciplinary scholar and artist, my interests lie in intersections. My current research focuses on Bayou St. Malo, Louisiana, the site of one of the earliest Filipino communities in the United States. In my book, which combines public history, creative nonfiction, poetry, and visual art, I engage in a longue durée history of the bayou from its geological formation to the present day, considering the influence of both human and more-than-human actors. For my dissertation, I am interested in exploring an environmental history of the Manila-Acapulco galleon trade. Prior to Cornell, I was involved in Filipino language advocacy and community building at Brown University, leading the Filipino@Brown (Tagalog@Brown) initiative and the Brown Filipino Alliance (2024-2025). When I’m not researching, you can find me crafting, dancing, and practicing yoga.
