Ryan Purcell

Overview

Ryan Purcell is a cultural historian focused on post World War Two urban America. He is currently finishing his PhD at Cornell University, wrapping up a dissertation on music scenes in New York City in the early 1970s. His work has appeared in various publications including the Journal of Urban HistoryLos Angeles Review of BooksThe Art Bulletin, and on prominent blogs including Gotham Center for New York City History, and Hyperallergic. Ryan is currently a museum educator and exhibition consultant at the New-York Historical Society. Outside of academia, his is a record collector and burgeoning D.J.
