I am a historian of the ancient world, primarily focused on the political, social, and military history of the Roman Republic. I am especially intrigued by violence and conflict in the ancient Mediterranean and how those forces acted as a catalyst for change as well as a source of identity for many cultures in that geopolitical sphere across time. I am also interested by definitions of war and peace and how those terms came to be defined, understood, and practiced in these ancient cultures.
