Hello from Cornell History

December 16, 2019

Dear Alumni and Friends,

It has been a wonderful first semester as the department’s new chair. My name is Tamara Loos, and I’m an alum of our graduate program who has been teaching in the department since 1999. I specialize in modern Southeast Asian history, Thailand, and gender & sexuality studies. I began my three-year appointment in July, and I write to share with you a few department updates.

As usual, you will be getting our longer, more comprehensive letter at the end of the school year. Please enjoy these three articles updating you on some happenings in the department.  For comprehensive news about the department, please refer to our website and follow our social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).

  • Public History Initiative launches at Cornell: Assistant History Professor Stephen Vider is the Director
  • Graduate Students explore their field through grants and awards
  • Renowned Medievalist Brian Tierney passes

We appreciate the support of our alumni, who make so much possible for our students and the department. If you are in town, please drop by to introduce yourself.

Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Tamara Loos
